Go to DARK BEAUTY

We are looking for active players able to work well with others. (It helps to have AIM or YIM.) Lots of available characters needed including: Luna Lovegood, Neville Longbottom, Dean Thomas, Daphne Greengrass, Millicent Bullstrode, Tracey Davis, Parvati Patil, Susan Bones, Fred Weasley, George Weasley and more. Particularly need DEATH EATERS, DA and ORDER MEMBERS!

Sixth year ended abruptly with the death of Albus Dumbledore and since his departure for “his next great adventure” into the after life, the Wizarding world has been a flurry of action. The summer was filled with seemingly random Death Eater attacks, like it was a pre-celebration of their victory over the Light. After all, the illustrious Order of the Phoenix had lost their leader. The most renowned of these assaults would have had to have been the attack on Diagon Alley in broad daylight, causing irreplaceable damage and almost all hope to be lost.

Despite this, or maybe because of this, new Headmistress Minerva McGonagall opened Hogwarts’ gates once more to those willing to continue their education, much to the Ministry of Magic’s chagrin. Many did not return but among those that did were the infamous “Golden Trio” of Gryffindor – including a reluctant Harry Potter, who still had the burden of carrying on in Dumbledore’s quest to find the missing Horcruxes – and surprisingly, Draco Malfoy, who had been in hiding since the night of Dumbledore’s death. Changes are afoot as Slytherins find that three leaders in their house turn away from the Dark Lord and form the “Silver Trio.”

Who will stand with these new leaders? Who will oppose them? How will Harry and his allies find and destroy the Horcruxes? What about the final showdown with Voldemort? And will that end it, or is there more to the Death Eaters than we know? Dark, mysterious and beautiful forces are at work.

This is an AU 7th Year Trio Era Hogwarts RPG set after the death of Albus Dumbledore. We are canon up until the end of HBP. We have a fun back story and exciting plot in development. We are gay, femme, het and bi ship-friendly AND we have plot! We are having fun, so come play with us!

Please read the rules before applying.

The online Harry Potter RPG that I will be in is still accepting applications for players to play characters. The only ones already chosen so far are Harry, Hermione, Ron and Draco. We could definitely use more players and it looks like fun. For more information go to: ready_to_fall.

Taking the plunge?

Okay, so I have been active role player for 27 years. (I almost can’t believe that one myself.) But I have never played an online RPG.

Ironically, I started role playing games to help my writing skills. At seventeen, I was already a published writer. Not only did I have poetry and essays published, but I had a couple short fiction works published in fanzines. Yet, I was having trouble with my dialog skills. I could write what was in my characters’ heads but had trouble with how they actually spoke. The co-editor of the fanzine I ran at the time was trying to help me with this and suggested I join a D&D group with some of the other writers.

I had been in fandom for over four years already and had been around gaming. But the idea of sitting still for hours did not appeal to me. (I was a so hyperactive then that one of the nicknames the co-editor had for me was “Flash” — as in the superspeed comic book character.) Well, we turned one of the characters I was trying to write into a D&D character and off I went. Thus was born a love of “the art of collective story telling,” also known as role playing games. I never have been into the game mechanics. My love is the story telling aspect. And since I have been blessed with game masters who made me “speak in character,” it did help with learning how to write dialog.

Back to the present, I have put in an application to play in an online Harry Potter game. The only time I have role played characters I didn’t create before was when I was the game master and using a module written by someone else. It will be something different to play a character with such an established background. On one hand, it gives me more to work with. On the other hand, I will have to make sure the character stays true to that history. It is a challenge that I would like to try.

The other fun part is that this would be a “slash” oriented RPG. Meaning that I would be playing a gay or bisexual character (if I get my choice). I know, I know, that is not much of a stretch for me given my other writing. But it would be fun! I have read a lot of slash fan fiction and have yet to share any of my own stories in that realm. (Well, at least publicly.)

I would feel guilty about devoting time to the online game instead of my publishable work if it weren’t that I have been so stuck lately. I am also hoping the fun of the game with shake loose some of the ideas I have rolling around in my head for the next scenes in the novel I am writing.

Which character would I play? Well, I have applied for one in particular and have a couple other I think I could play. But I won’t tell you until I hear back on if I get the one I want or not.
